5 Integrated Software Solutions That Maximize Your Pharmacy’s Efficiency

Posted on Mar 22, 2024

Your pharmacy management system streamlines nearly every aspect of your workflow, from the initial intake through finalizing the transaction. In fact, when used to its full potential, the right pharmacy software makes it easy to manage your store and save time and money. One of the ways to ensure you’re getting the most out of your software is to leverage other integrated solutions available to you. In fact, here are five integrated software solutions that maximize your pharmacy’s efficiency:

EDI for Advanced Inventory Management

In addition to the inventory functionality and reporting built into the BestRx software, pharmacies can utilize real-time data feeds and supplier integrations to keep up with inventory and price changes.

For example, our Wholesaler Interface delivers electronic files from eligible suppliers to a dedicated inbox in BestRx. Once enabled, pharmacies can use these Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) files to quickly download and update item, price, inventory, and order-related information automatically. This eliminates the need to update each item manually, saving time and reducing the likelihood of errors. Plus, BestPOS customers can utilize EDI files to efficiently manage their OTC items as well.

DSCSA Platforms for Comprehensive Compliance

BestRx has partnered with multiple DSCSA compliance platforms to help pharmacies adhere to the FDA’s complex interoperability requirements. In fact, our integrations with InfiniTrak or LSPedia enable pharmacies to seamlessly integrate the additional data and new processes into their existing workflows. This includes:

      • Validating trading partners.
      • Verifying products using electronic transaction data provided by the supplier.
      • Investigating discrepancies and filing electronic reports for illegitimate products.

Plus, each DSCSA solution includes Standard Operating Procedure templates and stores transaction data in a searchable format in case of an inquiry or audit. As a result, these integrations save pharmacies from having to verify orders line by line and avoid the fines and penalties associated with non-compliance.

Integrated IVR Systems for Reduced Phone Time

Time spent on the phone is one of the biggest productivity killers for pharmacies. Thats why many pharmacies rely on Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems to manage incoming calls. These automated phone systems utilize a pre-set service menu to route calls, so patients have easy access to store hours and location information, request a prescription refill or speak with a pharmacy staff member when needed.

While IVR systems have been used in the industry for years, pharmacies can maximize their effectiveness by selecting an IVR provider that integrates with their pharmacy software. This way, prescription requests can be automatically synced to their refill queue, so pharmacies don’t have to waste time listening to messages and entering refill requests manually. BestRx integrates with several leading IVR providers, including DigitalPharmacist/Vow, Medtel, NexIPTEL, and OmniCell.

Payment Processing Options for Added Flexibility and Convenience

Nowadays, patients value flexibility and options. This includes how they pay for their prescriptions and OTC items. That’s why BestRx provides pharmacies with multiple payment processing options: CardKnox, Heartland, or our industry-first integration with Square. Each processor offers flexible payment options for patients and a streamlined transaction process for pharmacies, including:

      • Accepting credit, debit, FSA/HSA, EMV, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay payments.
      • Submitting payment, obtaining signatures, and authorizing electronic communication, all from a single device.
      • Completing transactions using a credit card stored in BestRx/BestPOS.
      • Requesting remote payment via text message.

Plus, because each processor is integrated with BestRx, the transaction information is synced to the system automatically.

Automated Pill Counters

Pharmacies can also utilize robot integrations to streamline their fulfillment process as well. In fact, our Robot Interface can be used with a variety of pharmacy automation tools, including counting machines and pill cabinets. When enabled, the pharmacy simply scans the NDC on a prescription’s label, followed by the barcode for the associated machine. Then, the medication is placed on a counting tray so the machine can quickly count the number of pills, which is synced back to BestRx for the pharmacist to review.

A count displayed in red indicates that the quantity is greater than intended, yellow indicates a quantity less than intended and green indicates the quantity is correct. This makes it easy for pharmacy staff to quickly validate the count or make an adjustment when needed. Once the quantity has been confirmed, the BestRx signals the machine to continue filling the medication. Automation tools from Eyecon, KirbyLester, Omnicell, Parata, RxSafe and ScriptPro are compatible with BestRx.

While the core functionality included in most pharmacy management systems addresses most aspects of your operations, utilizing other integrated solutions ensures you’re maximizing your efficiency and getting the most out of your software.
